Microsoft launches a personalized news feed that you can access on Windows 10 or 11, or through your browser or phone.
A new website and app from Microsoft wants to help you cut down on the time you spend scrolling through different sites to find the news you need. Microsoft Start is a personalized news feed that builds on services like MSN.
If you already use the Microsoft News app, you'll find that the next time you update, it will change to Microsoft Start. Go to microsoftstart. Scroll down for different areas in news, entertainment, sports, money, lifestyle, health and more. Some weeks later; this app is hard to stay. Dead battery? It stalls, shows white screen, and wastes a lot of time. Still, the content is good. Don't use. Update: The stories it sends notifications for are all politics.
The first thing I did was set interest to science and to technology. I deselected the automatic choices such as US, politics, entertainment, and sports. My feed still has politics and sports but no science or technology as the top stories shown.
Worse than worthless if it does not personalize the results. I still update later if it "learns" my preferences and does better. I like the app overall BUT, I've had one issue with it that has never been addressed in any update. When playing a video in the the app, the video will freeze up at any given point. The audio will continue to play, but I will have to slide backwards in the video to get it to work again.
Windows 10 gives you even more freedom to choose how much or little you see on your Start menu. You can resize the Start menu, which expands or collapses the view of your Live Tiles.
Live Tiles are grouped together by type. You'll notice a gap between tile groups, where you can add a group title. It's easy to change or add a group title. If you no longer want to see updates from a Live Tile, you can turn it off. Once turned off, the Live Tile no longer provides real-time information. If you find yourself accessing the same folders over and over, you can add those folders to your Start menu for quick access.
